2016 Pensions and Benefits UK: Review

PBUK Panoramic

Pensions and Benefits UK returned to the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in the heart of Westminster on the 28 – 29 June. Both the location and timing could not have been more fitting following the monumental results from the EU Referendum, taking place just five days prior to the event.

Angela Rayner, former Pensions Shadow Minister, opened up this two day event despite the difficult political circumstances and was even promoted to Women and Equalities Shadow minister minutes before the conference, illustrating that politics and pensions are continuously changing and we aim to help our delegates keep up!

The 17th year of PBUK saw a range of speakers including Baroness Altmann, our Pension Prophets, Isabella Goldie from the Mental Health Foundation, David Taylor from the PPF, Lesley Titcomb from the TPR, John Chilman from FirstGroup, Dan Ball from Tyco International, Edmund Truell from Disruptive Capital, Anthony Arter The Pension Protection Ombudsman and many more. This year’s five stream programme included a mix of case studies, debates, panels and breakfast briefings facilitated and led by delegates, sponsors and over 100 independent expert speakers, sharing insights into the future of the industry.

Our final closing keynote was held by Nick Robinson, former Political Editor, BBC and current presenter on Radio 4’s Today Programme. Having only had two hours sleep due his reporting role in Brussels, where European leaders met to discuss their future relationship with the UK, Nick was able to provide us with the inside scoop on the political outlook for the UK in the wake of BREXIT.

At this year’s PBUK we were thrilled to introduce the Passport to Prizes competition, enabling delegates with a chance to win fantastic prizes ranging from a historic city helicopter tour, a luxury spa retreat for two, John Lewis vouchers and much more. To be entered into the prize draw, delegates were tasked with collecting 10 individual stamps from sponsor and exhibitor stands. The competition was hugely popular with over 100 delegates participating and also proved beneficial for our sponsor and exhibitors.

We could not have held this event without the support of over 40 expert sponsors; exhibitors and media partners who helped build and create a buzzing networking environment in our packed exhibition zone as well as add to the scintillating content in our many sessions.

The ‘Gold Plus Partner’ package was a successful new addition to our range of sponsorship packages, enabling sponsors to benefit from not only all the elements included within a gold package but also a speaking session within the main conference programme, proving to be a hugely popular and highly valued opportunity.

Across the two days, over 800 pensions and benefits professionals gathered to ‘Shape the Future of the Industry’, comprising of Pension Scheme Managers, Trustees, CFOs, HR Managers and Reward and Benefits managers. We also had a greater intake than in previous years of small consultants and advisory firms who opted for our exclusive paid delegate pass, demonstrating the increasing desire and importance for delegates to understand more about the industry in such a demanding and constantly evolving environment.
